Sowing And Reaping

Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Galatians 6:7(NLT)

The Scriptures plainly tell us that we shall reap what we sow..
We can sow and reap attitudes and words as well as crops or finances.

The devil loves to keep us busy thinking selfishly, treating loyal friends as unimportant, sowing words of strife in our families, and thinking negative thoughts about bosses, spouses, pastors, etc. The devil wants us to sow bad seed in every single relationship.

So many of us behave this way and then wonder why people don’t like us or treat us the way we want to be treated. The answer is simple, we’re reaping what we’ve sown!

What are you sowing today? No matter the person, no matter the relationship, sow love, forgiveness, kindness, and patience. You’ll find that as you treat others the way God wants you to, you will reap a life filled with encouraging friendships and wonderful, godly relationships.

Let’s sow good things and reap good things. Instead of acting selfishly toward others, let’s sow kindness and love in our relationships and with all the people in our lives.

God bless!

Depending On The Holy Spirit

me and my colleague Regina at work.

Behold, God is my helper and ally; the Lord is my upholder and is with them who uphold my life.
—Psalm 54:4 NLT

We often look at people who have wealth, position, power, fame, and consider them to be totally successful. But many people who are viewed as successful still lack good relationships, peace, joy, contentment, and other true blessings that are available only in the context of a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Self-sufficient people often think it is a sign of weakness to depend on God. But by drawing on the ability of the Holy Spirit, we can accomplish more in our lives than we could by working in our own strength.

There are many things we struggle with when we could be receiving help from the Holy Spirit. Many of us never find the right answers to our problems because we seek out the wrong sources for advice and counsel instead of asking the Divine Counselor who lives within us for guidance.

Let’s be encourage to lean on God for everything, and that means little things as well as big things.

The only way we can experience the success God intends for us is to become totally dependent on the Holy Spirit.

Why The Storm

O God, why have You cast us off forever? Why does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture? ~ Psalms 74:1 NKJV

When I think of the storms we all face in life, I can understand why we sometimes ask, “Why the storms? Why do we have to go through so many problems and struggles in life? Why do God’s people have to deal with so much suffering?”

As I considered these questions, I began to see that Satan plants these questions in our minds in a attempt to keep us focused on our problems instead of focusing on the goodness of God. If we persist in asking these questions, we’re implying that God may be to blame. I don’t think it’s wrong to ask God why things happen. The writers of the psalms certainly didn’t hesitate to ask.

In recent times, I’ve begun to think that why isn’t what we’re really asking God. Is it possible that we’re asking, “God, do You love me? Will You take care of me in my sorrow and pain? You won’t leave me alone in my pain, will You?” Is it possible that, because we’re afraid that God doesn’t truly care about us, we ask for explanations?

We must learn to say, “Lord God, I believe. I don’t understand, and I could probably never get all the reasons why bad things happen, but I  know for certain that You love me and You are with me—always.”

Living Faithfully in a Hostile World

Daniel 1:8
“But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.”

Commentary
Daniel and his three friends found themselves living as exiles in Babylon. Babylon was hostile to their God, faith, culture, language, names, and food. The God of Israel had set standards by which His people the Jews lived: how to worship, how to relate to one another, the clean foods they could eat, and unclean ones they couldn’t, etc. In this hostile environment, they were expected to conform to the pattern of the Babylonians.

Daniel decided he was going to remain faithful to his God no matter what. He requested to be allowed to eat what was acceptable to his faith. He influenced his three friends to stay true to God.
The three young men lived faithfully in a hostile world.

Today’s world is hostile to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and we are exiles in it:
“Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul” (1 Peter 2:11).
Christian values and culture that used to rule and guide our lives in the past are now openly mocked. The world makes fun of our faith in God. People have tried to adjust the Gospel to minimize the guilt in their conscience. There are many who think living holy lives is old-fashioned.
The truth is that God’s standards never change.

The king of Babylon tried to change the Hebrew boys into Babylonians by squeezing out their faith in God, but Daniel and his friends chose to remain faithful. They were men of prayer, unashamed to be known as worshipers of the God of heaven.

Not every Jew in exile remained faithful to God:
“The king of Babylon… released Jehoiachin, king of Judah… from prison… He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon. So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and, for the rest of his life, ate regularly at the king’s table. Day by day, the king gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance as long as he lived” (2 Kings 25:27-30).

Today, the world is trying to pressure Christians to accept diluted Christianity and conform to the pattern of this world.
The Bible commands:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing, and perfect will” (Rom 12:2).

God is ready to uphold us against the real pressure being applied on us and our loved ones to try and conform us to this fallen world:
“Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges My name. He will call on Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him” (Ps 91:14-15).

Who are you:
Conformed to the pattern of Babylon like Jehoiachin or living faithfully in a hostile world like Daniel?

Prayer
Thank You, our everlasting Father, for Your promise to preserve us through the troubles of this world. We pray today that You help us live according to Your Word, not according to the ways of this world. Help us to discern the truth and to hold onto it. May we not get caught up in the systems of this world. Lord, hear us because of Christ. Amen.

Being Decisive

But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned. James 5:12(NLT)

Indecision is a miserable state to be in and certainly is not a fruit of the simple life. The apostle James tells us that a double-minded person is unstable in all his ways.

Never making a decision because we’re afraid we’ll make the wrong one will get us nowhere. How much time do we think we waste when we can’t make up our minds?

We often labor over the choices before us when we only just need to make a decisions: Saying no when we realize other people are taking advantage of our good heart , walking away from bad friends, starting that business, going back to college and getting more knowledge . Let’s not go back and forth until we regret, when we’re in indecisive

Let us be encouraged to start making decisions without second-guessing ourself or worrying about the choices we make. Let’s no be double-minded or wishy-washy because doubting our decisions after we make them will steal the enjoyment from everything we do. Make the best decisions we can and trust God with the results.

Indecision doesn’t really get us anywhere. Let’s us be prayerful asking the Holy spirit to help us that our “yes” be “yes,” and our “no” be “no.” so that we make decisions the best we can and simply trust God with the results.

Unrealistic Expectations

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good.” Mark 10:18(NLT)

Unrealistic expectations can quickly steal our peace and joy. We usually visualize a perfect family, with perfect friends, and ourselves being perfectly happy in our perfect little world, but we all know that isn’t reality. In reality, only God is perfect and the rest of us are under restructuring.

The devil knows what steals our peace and he sets us up to get upset when our unrealistic expectations fall apart.

After years of letting the devil steal my peace, I finally got it: Life is not perfect, and things are going to happen that l did not plan for and would rather not go through. My new attitude has become, “Oh well, that’s life!” I have discovered that if I don’t let those things impress me, then they can’t depress me.

Everyone has to deal with inconveniences, but we can deal with them and avoid a bad attitude. Remember today that only God is perfect and trust in Him. He can always lead us past disappointing, betrayal, rejection circumstances, strengthening us and helping us to hold on to our peace.

Only God is perfect. I am so glad that even when people and circumstances fail, He never will. Instead of putting our hope in things that will disappoint us, let’s choose a life of peace that only comes from putting our hope and faith in God.

Learn To Trust God’s Plan

Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. Psalms 37:5(NLT)

We can simplify our lives by learning to develop trust in God. Far too often, we don’t allow ourselves to trust. Maybe our trust has been betrayed too many times in the past, or maybe we’re just very independent. Even so, it’s so critical to learn to trust God.

It’s easy to get stressed out and run-down trying to make our lives work on our own, but that never works. And God’s plans are always better than our own. The person who trusts God knows that His way is best.

Now trust won’t just magically happen. Trust grows as we take steps of faith and experience God’s faithfulness. We have to tell our doubts, our fears, our insecurity, or maybe even our fierce independence to make way for a life of trusting in God. When we do that, we won’t have to struggle so much to make our lives to work.

Trusting God brings a supernatural rest to our souls, allowing us to live simply and freely, the way He wants us to live. So even when it doesn’t make sense, trust Him, and experience His freedom and rest.

Trusting God Through The Process

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. Psalms 23:4(NLT)

We often think of trusting God for things we need or want, but a true relationship of trust in God extends beyond trusting Him just to get something. We need to learn to trust Him through the process of attaining those things we desire.

We may get focused intensely on trusting God for things, saying, ‘I want this, God,’ and ‘I need such-and-such, God.’ But getting all those things may not be most important issue in our lives.

God wants to teach us how to trust Him enough to walk through tough situations with stability and with a good attitude on a consistent basis. He needed us to learn that He may not always rescue us when we’re going through tough situations. But we’re assured Gd is always with us as we walk through them.

God is with us now. He is near us, so let’s trust Him to walk with us through the storms of life.We need to be glad that God is always with us. We shouldn’t just trust Him to give us things, but also trust Him through the process of life.

You O LORD, Have No Equal!

Psalms 40:5
“O LORD my God, You have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all Your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.”

Commentary
Speaking for himself, David had experienced God’s power in his own life. God gave him success, protection, a kingdom, wealth, and fame. David knew God personally and intimately. But here, he is not just speaking on his own behalf but also on behalf of the people of Israel. They, too, had many reasons to say what David said that day. God was their help and strength.

David declares that the Lord had given them many signs of His power and love for them. He was likely thinking of how the Lord liberated Israel from Egypt by amazing signs and wonders that He performed against Pharaoh. There was the parting of the Red Sea, the parting of River Jordan, and many other signs in their wilderness experience:
“For forty years, I led you through the wilderness, yet your clothes and sandals did not wear out” (Deut 29:5).

People who have a deep and close relationship with God pray and talk to Him like they know He is right there with them. When trouble came, David went quickly and directly to the Lord, pleaded, and received help from the Throne of heaven:
“I waited patiently for the LORD; He inclined to me and heard my cry. He lifted me up from the pit of despair, out of the miry clay; He set my feet upon a rock and made my footsteps firm. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD” (Ps 40:1-3).

In this Psalm, David committed himself to doing the Lord’s will and also to telling others how the Lord delivered him from all his enemies. He says that the Lord delivers those who wait on Him and commit themselves to His will.

What about us? Have we committed ourselves to doing God’s will? Do we testify before people about God’s great working in our lives? Could we, like David, say that many people will see our righteous walk with Christ and put their trust in the Him?

Prayer
O Lord, my Father, please give me patience to wait on You, for I know that You are near to me and You listen to the cries of my heart. You alone are the rock on which I stand. Right now, as I pray, help me to remember Your faithfulness. I know that You care for me and will make my steps secure on the path You have set for me. You do all this, for Your own name’s sake. Amen
