Experiencing a spiritual spark at times can seem difficult but that can still be the easiest bit. Keeping the spiritual fire going continuously could be the difficult part because it demands at the least a steady supply of fuel.
Its true that’s even Gods fire in your life is started by Himself but is to be fueled by yourself…
When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. The priests could not enter the temple of the Lord because the glory of the Lord filled it. 2 Chronicles 7:1, 2.
King Solomon begun with such grace and favor from God. God had appeared to him in a dream and asked him to request for anything and this young man asked for wisdom and that was granted , together with much wealth.
His love and commitment to God was evident too , he built Yahweh the first temple in Israel and on its dedication , fire literally came down from heaven and consumed all the sacrifice ! And King Solomon followed by offering God such a lavish sacrifice !
But the warmth of Solomon’s sincere prayer and his lavish offerings of sacrifices at the consecration of the temple were not followed up with a similar exuberance to constantly obey Yahweh. His fire went out , because he added no fuel !
What an awe -inspiring power had come down from heaven at the beginning! Yet in spite of this, the ‘flame’ was eventually extinguished. Solomon didn’t add the fuel !
Before Solomon’s death, God became angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned from the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after idols; but he did not keep what God had commanded.
Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Because you have done this, and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant” 1 Kings 11:9-11.
Even in life , lasting success is not the result of brief spasmodic moments of brilliance. It is not like the short -lived glitter of a firecracker that lights up the dark night sky, but quickly expires as soon as its minimal energy is dissipated.
For a motor to keep running, for a body to keep functioning, for love to keep thriving, for a plant to keep growing, for an organisation to keep operating and for your righteous flame to keep burning the appropriate fuel must be constantly supplied.
Victory can only be determined when the intended task is satisfactorily completed. A dazzling beginning counts for nothing unless it is followed right through to the ultimate conclusion.
The pilgrim journey continues to life’s end. The challenge to all believers is, ‘how can you keep the heavenly flame ablaze so that your life will be constantly transformed and you will be able to impact the lives of others in a way that is pleasing to God , for as long as you live?’
Once in a while some of us experience sparks of vigour , commitment and renewed activity in our spiritual lives but fail to do the constant daily hardwork of adding the fuel to create lasting spiritual flames….
May this be another fiery week for you…may you be set on fire….then burn continuously for Christ !
