Praise God Friends, in line with this topic, we will read from the book of Hebrews 12:3-8 which says;

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

When I read the section of Heb 12:3-8 which says  ..”think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you…” I immediately knew this verse was talking about HUMILITY among the members of the body of Christ particularly in the way we use our God given SPIRITUAL gifts and talents in our ministry.

The scripture is cautioning us against thinking highly of ourself than we ought to because the human heart is deceitful and continuously cooks evil. The human heart loves taking credit for things that God has done and then it goes ahead to think highly of itself and disregard those who are not privileged like them at that particular time.

But HUMILITY is very  important if we are to work together in unity and harmony in the work of God and still sustain the spirit of God among us. The Bible says when you humble yourselves before the Lord, He will lift you up meaning you have to lay down your life for him so that He may be glorified. It is therefore IMPOSSIBLE to work together in harmony and not see each other as a competition or view others as lesser beings than us or envy others because we feel they are greater than us if we don’t humble ourselves before the authority and rulership of God our creator.

The next section of the scripture I want to expound on is the one that says “We have different gifts, according to the grace given us”. The thing is, lack of humility gives birth to, jealously or pride or both. It is therefore very important that we are not jealous of one another’s gifts or talents or expertize with which they carry out their roles within the body of Christ. This is because, the scripture says, we all have different gifts, God in all His majesty made us all uniquely different, with unique gifts, talents, grace, favour, expertize name it.

Therefore, being jealous of another person’s giftings is like chasing after the wind because you can never be them and they can never be you neither can you take away the gifts God has bestowed upon them unless God Himself does.We can only enjoy each other’s giftings when we work together with them in harmony and unity.

Nevertheless, that level of humility and unity cannot be achieved by human standards. Human beings by themselves have no power to live together in harmony unless they first, seek God. The Bible says in Mathew 6:33 that seek first the kingdom of God and All it’s righteousness and ALL this things shall be added to you. By ALL things He meant humility, harmony, unity and all the fruits of the Holy Spirit. It is therefore IMPOSSIBLE to be at peace and harmony with men unless you first be at peace and harmony with God. It is only when we lay down our lives for Christ to reign then we are going to be able to have the proper self-evaluation of ourselves.

However, if we continue operating our lives on our own accord, our own terms and conditions, doing what we want rather than what God wants of us, being concerned about the opinion of men and allowing it to get into our heads then we are never going to see each other through the lense of God’s eyes so that we are able to have an honest look at our own lifestyle. This means,  we might continue living a life of thinking high of ourselves than we should.

What’s your take home?

1.) Kindly allow God to do unique things in your lives.

2.) Stop limiting God in your life or in other believer’s lives because of the laws set by your denominations or you yourselves. God’s thoughts aren’t yours. He works in totally different ways than you can think or imagine.

3.) Stop letting other believer’s intimidate you into not following  and serving God in whichever capacity God is calling you to serve Him. You are unique in your own way.

4.) Never dismiss other believer’s gifts and abilities just because it doesn’t fall within your established and denominational laws.

Give each other a chance. Allow each other to light their candle because when each member of the body of Christ lights a candle the whole body of Christ end up being the light of the world. Your one candle or five candles from every member of your family cannot light the whole world. But if every believer would give a chance to every member in the body of Christ to shine then the church would take it’s rightful position which is the temple or the habitation of the holy Spirit and we would all be the light of the world.

I am not saying, you give a chance to everyone blindly? No! Remain in the vine and He will remain in you. When you do that, The vine will fill you with the holy spirit the counselor. He will be able to help you discern between the true gifts from God because He is the spirit of truth. Whatever the spirit of God does in and through every member of the body of Christ, MUST be in agreement with HIS CHARACTER and His Character is LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS and SELF-CONTROL. Against such things there is no law.

I promise you that if we will all submit to the will of God and let go of our own ego and human abilities and understanding, then God is faithful to continue with His work over our lives according to His divine will. And his will for our lives as the church is to use us, to win the scattered sheep of CHRIST back to their creator.

May Gods Blessings follow you even as you counter check your lifestyles and if you find any form of pride, you throw it in the fire before it throws you in the fire!

Yours faithfully

    1. Thanks for your kind comment. I thank God because this post ended up being powerful than I even thought it would be. I bless the name of the living God for His wonderful spirit that prompted every idea behind this piece. I love your work too. God bless you honey.

  1. Good post. It seems the trials brought on by this virus may even be playing a part in uniting the body of Christ even if it’s at a distance. Also, you may want to change your scripture reference from Hebrews to Romans. Thank you for a good reminder of the importance of each member in the body.

  4. This is a very lovely and thoughtful post. The key thing is God does not walk with the proud and scornful. Where the spirit of pride is the Holy Spirit won’t work. It is so sad that people are jealous of other people’s gift. I have known pastors who go through battles with other pastor because they are jealous of their gifts. We are not the ones who anoint ourselves, our righteousness are filthy rags and it is by grace we receive these gifts. It would be great joy and beauty for us all to esteem other more highly than ourselves as the scriptures have instructed us. We would all be able to light our candles and bright up the world in righteousness.

  5. Wow, this paragraph is fastidious, my younger sister is analyzing these kinds of things, so I am going to let know her.
I’ve been browsing online more than 2 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours.
It is pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web
will be much more useful than ever before. I could not refrain from
    commenting. Exceptionally well written!

  6. I am curious to find out what blog platform you have been working with?
I’m having some minor security problems with my latest website and I’d like to find something more risk-free.
    Do you have any solutions?

  7. Aw, this was an exceptionally nice post. Taking the time and actual effort to generate
a great article… but what can I say… I hesitate a lot and never manage to get anything done.

  8. Hello there! Would you mind if I share your blog with my myspace group?
There’s a lot of people that I think would really appreciate your content.
    Please let me know. Thanks

  9. I’m really enjoying the design and layout of your website.
It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more enjoyable
for me to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a designer to create your theme?

    Great work!
