THE TRUTH ABOUT MOST CHRISTIAN MILLENNIALS TODAY

  1. Always overtaken by anxiety
  2. Depression is part of their lifestyle
  3. Suicide is a solution to their struggles.
  4. They insist on tolerance. Instead of hating sin for the separation that it causes between us and God, they accept the sins of others in the name of โ€œloving them for who they are.โ€ But the problem with tolerance is that when we accept people for who they WANT to be, we neglect the people that Jesus MADE them to be.
  5. They neglect Theology. When theology is neglected Christian millennials succumb to weak cultural ideas and defective scriptural interpretation such as โ€œJesus just said to love people, so why should we be opposed to gay marriage?โ€ and โ€œthe Bible says not to judge, so donโ€™t tell me that I shouldnโ€™t be sleeping with my boyfriend!โ€ when the Bible actually tells Christians to judge each other (Matthew 7:24, I Corinthians 5:9-13). To say you love Jesus but donโ€™t need theology is like a husband telling his wife, โ€œI love you, poopsies. But I donโ€™t care to know your heart, your character, your desires, your attributes,โ€ etc.
  6. They are one with the world. Theyโ€™re quick to sing popular worship songs like โ€œO to Be Like Youโ€ and โ€œJesus, Be the Center of My Lifeโ€ but how practical do they allow this to be? We need to be Daniels, Esthers, and Joshuas. We need to be people of faith who love without ceasing and represent without compromise. Also, I understand that nobody is perfect but itโ€™s one thing to sin and try to justify it while itโ€™s another to sin and repent; confessing and turning away from sin.
  7. Bash the Church. Christian Millennials are quick to throw the Church under the bus. Blogs are constantly cycling the internet like โ€œ3 reasons why I left my youth groupโ€ (and of course itโ€™s alwaysย the youth group/youth pastorโ€™s fault, not the student who left). While the Church isnโ€™t perfect, I feel it is much more effective to celebrate the good that the Church is doing than the negative, which a lot of times isnโ€™t even negative, itโ€™s rhetoric. ย Itโ€™s also important to remember that as Christians we ARE the Church, therefore, we are the imperfection that is, the difference that needs to be, and the good that the Church is doing.
  8. Declining Accountability. The same group of Christian millennials will be the first to dish out accountability, usually in the form of Church-bashing, but will be the last to receive it. Itโ€™ll be rendered them, but they wonโ€™t accept it. If you call them out on wayward behavior they will notoriously accuse you of judging them and use the Bible to support their plight. But indeed the Bible says that Christians ARE to judge each other, as we saw earlier. If you identify as Christian then you, oh beloved, fall within the God-appointed jurisdiction of judgment from your sibling in Christ. To be clear, judgment should be read as corrective counsel in attempts to hold one accountable and thus point towards restoration. Accountability is not only biblical, but it is wonderful. Repentance is a means of turning from darkness and receiving the gift of restoration that is found in Jesus. Itโ€™s easy to read repentance as a scary thing. Stop flirting with what you can get away with, and instead pursue the holiness that we have through Jesus Christ.
  9. They are too busy to evangelize.
  10. They love going to church, they love singing and dancing BUT. They donโ€™t enjoy the preaching or do any personal bible study on their own at home or have any kind of prayer life.

But Timothy foresaw these times and warned us in 2 Timothy 3:1-9 He says;

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of Godโ€” having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.

Application Questions

  • Who has failed this generation?
  • Who will tell this generation that there will be no excuse on judgement day.

PS: This post doesnโ€™t dispute the fact that there are Millennial’s who are killing it in the church today and are living to please Jesus just like the older generation.

  1. Fathers?

    Genesis 18:17-19 New King James Version (NKJV)

    17 And the Lord said, โ€œShall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, 18 since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.โ€

    Joshua 24:14-15 New King James Version (NKJV)

    14 โ€œNow therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! 15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.โ€

    1 Timothy 3:1-5 New King James Version (NKJV)

    3 This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; 3 not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; 4 one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence 5 (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?);

    1 Timothy 3:12 New King James Version (NKJV)

    12 Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

    Titus 1:5-6 New King James Version (NKJV)

    5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded youโ€” 6 if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination.
