Today’s Scripture Luke 10:38-42. It says:
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Today morning after my everyday morning workout, as we were walking to the office just a stone throw away from the gym, my colleague and I had a very enlightening talk. She was telling me how her boss keeps her in the office till late, how she goes home tired and finds her children asleep and how that affects her mental health and this happens a lot to all of us who work in offices and we I agree that work has to be done because we need the money to keep life moving. But think about this, the day your health begins deteriorating or your family dynamics changes, or the company begins to lose confidence in you, or someone smarter than you come along … well the office will bid you bye bye with all the years, hours and loyalty you painstakingly gave to the company over the years. The benefits you got from the company like bonuses, profit sharing, medical, disability, and life insurance, paid vacations, free meals, use of a company car, pensions, stock options, childcare, gratuity, company holidays, personal days, sick leave, other time off from work, retirement and pension plan will be cut off immediately and it is only at that time that you will realize that there are great perks/benefits when you serve God … and the longer you serve Him … the benefits/perks goes up like the stock market. And most of all, when the going gets rough, God comes alongside us, and toughens us up so we can withstand the pressure. When your confidence begins to fail, He scoops you up and reassures you that everything will be well. God stays with you to the end.
But the opposite is true, if you don’t serve God … there will always be lack in areas where money and notoriety don’t cut the deal. Look at Mary and Martha in our study verse today, Mary has chosen to sit comfortably at the feet of Jesus and listen to Him. Mary is serving the Lord with her time but Martha is distracted by all the preparations that has to be made. I mean we all are victims of these, when visitors come we move up and down and forget ourselves, the worst of all is a person choosing to attend to a personal event on a day that they are supposed to go to church, or choosing to be distracted by issues in the house at a time that they are supposed to be doing your bible study in the comfort of their study room or bedroom, I mean, you all know the issues that easily distract you when you should be sitting at the feet of Christ, serving Him with your time and presence. So Martha goes ahead to complain to Jesus, she comes to him and asks, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” Martha, Martha,” the Lord Jesus answered, “you are WORRIED and UPSET ABOUT MANY THINGS, but only ONE THING is NEEDED. Mary has chosen what is better, and it WILL NOT be TAKEN AWAY FROM HER.” Whoop!! That’s is so POWERFUL!!
Dear Beloved, when you serve God … you set apart yourself and make yourself available to do any and every thing He asks you to do. You respectfully observe and obey His leading even if it looks scary because you trust His ways. Many times the trust goes beyond our understanding … but the benefits are found in knowing God will bring you out on the other side. He promotes you in the ‘More than Enough’ category. My God is big enough to handle anything that may oppose you and any giants that will come against you. He is so detailed … He knows if a bird falls to the ground and He watches over you with those same eagle eyes while you are asleep. You don’t have to depend on your resources, or on people because He is able to do more than you can think imagine or ask for. This is the only employment where you cannot lose your position unless you back off on your own, but even when you come back after backing off, the CEO receives you with much joy and rewards you with eternal benefits/perks.
Dear Beloved, When anxiety strikes in EVERY circumstance of your life, you can run to Him and let Him know you’re scared. God reminds you that He is still in control and nothing, absolutely nothing, can come nigh where you live. He will shelter you and you will find your rest in Him. God watches over your household and they too will have no lack. Remember Paul and Silas in prison, they sang hymns until the Mighty Man of War threw open the gates of prison and they walked out, then the prison warden moved to his knees or humbled by the happening of the day asks Paul and Silas what ought He to do to be born again? This was their answer,
He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
How powerful is the word of God brethren oh! how powerful? When you serve the Lord, when you create time for Jesus in your life, you invest not only for yourself but also for your HOUSEHOLD, for your generation. How faithful is this God? For me, I have tasted of the mercies of the Lord and I can tell you this without fear of being contradicted with anyone that the LORD IS GOOD and His mercies endures FOREVER. God makes a way when your backs are against a wall. He changes your story from being victims of society to reigning and ruling your world. The benefits/perks of serving God will continue to be a sign and a reminder to you in your golden years. The best is yet to come.
Live humble and confident knowing that your God GOT YOUR BACK ALWAYS!
